The Biomedical Data Science Lab (BMDS) is an interdisciplinary, motivated and young research team working at the intersection of medicine, data science and biology. Our research aims to identify causes, risk factors, and biomarkers of disease progression. At the core of our research is a series of prospective and retrospective investigations that integrate genetic, biochemical, clinical assessments and medication history with both traditional epidemiological approaches and machine-learning algorithms. Currently, we are doing research in the fields of spinal cord injury, lower back pain and infectious diseases (e.g. sepsis in children and adults).

In addition to research, we are involved in teaching activities. The major goal is to provide the students with an introduction to applied data science (programming, analysis, visualization) to solve biomedical questions.
